Atlanta
Since our wedding is on Friday, you might want to take advantage of a long weekend in the ATL. Spring is a great time to take in some of Atlanta’s attractions, if you can handle the pollen. Here are a few surefire ways to paint the town red.
Potential Schedule #1
After breakfast, take in the latest exhibits at the High Museum of Art, then head to Downtown Decatur to check out the boutiques (stopping to quench your thirst at The Brick Store Pub, of course) and fill up your car with goodies at the Dekalb Farmer’s Market. Stay in Decatur or head back to midtown for dinner and drinks. |
Potential Schedule #2
Start your day with a walk around the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which is located just next to Magnolia Hall. They just opened a new exhibit of sculptures by Henry Moore, and it looks like it’s going to be amazing! Grab some brunch at the Flying Biscuit Cafe or Murphy’s (while you’re there, check out the shops in Virginia Highland). Then hit up IKEA for all of your Swedish home good needs. You’ll be exhausted after finding the perfect desk lamp to replace your old sad one, so treat yourself to an early dinner and call it a day. |
Potential Schedule #3
Release your inner tourist and hit up the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola, in that order. That way, you’ll work up a thirst admiring the beluga whales and clown fish, then head to World of Coke’s tasting room, where you can sample Coke products from around the world. Be sure to try the one called Beverly – it won’t disappoint! Or maybe it will. It’s probably a good idea to plan on some downtime post-tasting room, so plop yourself down on a grassy knoll at Centennial Olympic Park and watch the kids play in the fountain. Stay away from caffeine the rest of the day, but find a good spot for dinner in town. |
Potential Schedule #4
Sleep in, head to Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza for a bit of shopping (it’s all the same stores you’d find in any major city’s malls, but it’s still fun to look, right?). Grab a late lunch and then head west of the city for an evening at Six Flags over Georgia. They sometimes discount tickets for visitors who arrive after 4:00 p.m. or so, and you won’t risk getting a nasty farmer’s tan. Eat a funnel cake for dinner. You’re on vacation so it’s okay. |
