Emily and Neil’s Wedding

May 1st, Atlanta Georgia

Restaurants

If you’re looking for a somewhere great to eat while you’re in Atlanta, here’s a list of our favorite places and why you should go there.

Close to Piedmont Park
(within 5 miles)

Apres Diem
931 Monroe Dr NE, Suite C103
Atlanta, GA 30308
(404) 872-3333
A favorite coffee bar and bistro (open for late night, party people) right near Piedmont Park. It’s rumored that Emily and Neil dined here the night they decided to be, you know, more than friends. Maybe it was something in the steak frites?

Eat’s
600 Ponce De Leon Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30308
(404) 888-9149
A staple for the Atlanta-area college crowd. Emily has fond memories of eating here with her brother Colin, and having a difficult time deciding if she was in the mood for jerk chicken or spinach fettucine. Why not both?

Flip Burger Boutique
1587 Howell Mill Rd
Atlanta, GA 30318
(404) 352-3547
Currently Neil and Emily’s Favorite Place To Eat In Atlanta. A menu of more than a dozen gourmet burgers, created by Richard Blais, keep us coming back. Neil recommends the Cuban, while Emily favors the Lamburger. Or the Southern. It’s a tossup.

The Flying Biscuit Cafe
1001 Piedmont Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30309
(404) 874-8887
This place recently became a franchise, but the midtown location still feels pretty homey, and it’s a popular brunch spot. Within walking distance to Piedmont Park, Flying Biscuit boasts some pretty tasty biscuits, which comes with apple butter and pairs perfectly with a side of bacon.

Joe’s on Juniper
1049 Juniper Street
Atlanta, GA 30309
(404) 875-6634
Looking for a patio on which to enjoy a cold beer? Joe’s has solid bar food (the Kinda Cobb, Kinda Fulton salad really satisfies) and a great laid-back atmosphere. This is where Emily convinced Christina to pledge to do a ribbon dance to Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors at her own wedding, and let me tell you, people: it was amazing.

Joli Kobe
1545 Peachtree St
Atlanta, GA 30309
(404) 843-1440
Each winter, Neil, Emily and Steven gather in Atlanta to spend the holidays with our families and sit down down to at least a couple of meals at Joli Kobe. Their Joli Kobe chicken sandwich is a perennial favorite of the guys, and Emily sometimes wishes she could ship the ginger dressing to Nashville on demand. Oh, and the Japanese-style pastries are second-to-none. Don’t believe us? Wait until you taste our wedding cake.

La Fonda Latina
923 Ponce De Leon Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30306
(404) 607-0665
and
2813 Peachtree Rd NE
Atlanta, GA 30305
(404) 816-8311
Hands down one of our favorite places to eat, with big ol’ quesadillas, cuban sandwiches and healthy servings of black beans and yellow rice. Neil and Emily once ate here before catching a Jewel concert at Chastain Park Amphitheatre on the fly for about $14. Did you know Jewel used to live in her car?

Murphy’s
997 Virginia Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30306
(404) 872-0904
A perfect place to have brunch on Saturday morning before perusing the shops of Virginia Highland. Emily’s been there for lunch and dinner and highly recommends it, but word on the street is Murphy’s brunch is a real treat. Even the orange juice gets rave reviews.

One Midtown Kitchen
559 Dutch Valley Rd NE
Atlanta, GA 30324
(404) 892-4111
Just a stone’s throw away from Magnolia Hall, so think about treating yourself either Thursday or Saturday night if you’re making a weekend out of it (they’re only open for dinner). Emily and Neil discovered this place with Steven and his lovely wife Lisa a couple of Christmases ago, and even though Emily had a cold and couldn’t taste much of anything, she was stoked to see they served a wine that shared her name.

Park Tavern
500 10th St NE
Atlanta, GA 30309
(404) 249-0001
This bar sits right in Piedmont Park, so if you get to the wedding venue early (recommended, by the way) head to the Tavern for a pre-ceremony libation. And if it’s raining (which it, ahem, won’t be, Mother Nature) definitely head over there for $1 pints. Because when it rains, they pour!

Taqueria del Sol
2165 Cheshire Bridge Road
Atlanta, GA 30324
(404) 321-1118
and
1200-B Howell Mill Road
Atlanta, GA 30318
(404) 352-5811
and
359 West Ponce De Leon Avenue
Decatur, GA 30030
(404) 377-7668
You’ll have to stand in line, but we promise, it’ll be worth it. The line moves quickly anyway. Everything about the food – the salty chips and creamy queso, the tasty tacos, and the near-perfect red enchilada sauce (try it with the brisket!) – will make you happy. The speedy service and delicious margaritas add to an all around pleasantly casual dining experience.

Close to the Doubletree Hotel

Chick-fil-a

Located all over the Atlanta area, but here’s the one closest to the Doubletree
2340 North Druid Hills Rd, NE
Atlanta, GA 30329
If you’re in Atlanta, you must eat some Chick-fil-a. That’s all there is to it. Half the reason we’re getting married on a Friday is so you can be sure to nurse your hangover with a fresh, hot, chicken biscuit on Saturday morning. Just don’t wait until Sunday, folks, or you’ll be sitting at the drive-through for a long time.

Worth the Atlanta Traffic

The Brick Store Pub
125 E Court Square
Decatur, GA 30030
(404) 687-0990
If you’ve got some time to wander, head to Decatur, just 6 miles east of Atlanta and home to Emily’s alma mater, Agnes Scott College. There are a ton of great restaurants and shops in Decatur square, but The Brick Store is the best place for a German-style pretzel and a high-octane beer or five.

Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market
Any foodies who need to stock up on spices, breads, or international foods should make a stop at the Dekalb Farmer’s Market. It’s just east of Downtown Decatur (which is just east of Atlanta), and has an entire section just for nut butters. That alone is worth the drive, right? The Farmer’s Market also has a stellar salad and hot food bar, if you’re feeling peckish. Emily used to live just down the street from her beloved Farmer’s Market, where she’d buy an entire week’s worth of groceries for under $20. Not too shabby.

Visit Taqueria del Sol while you’re in Decatur, too!
